Paradise Lost – Paradise regained

Hold the date:  Friday June 22nd and Saturday June 23rd 2018 at St Andrews on the Terrace.

In developing the topic for this weekend we have visited the themes around the Winter Soltice, Matariki and the lecture series and subsequent publication  of “The Greening of Christianity” by the Rev. Professor Sir Lloyd Geering.

In these he foresaw the need for nature to have a political voice, a suggestion that there are limitations to democratic action unless there is a groundswell of green consciousness at the grassroots of society to really effect change to care for and protect the environment.

Despite the Christian audience he wrote for, the book we believe, provides a strong call for a societal perspective that needs to be a real part of our modern world for all people.

We have structured the conference theme around Sir Lloyd’s 10 suggested resolutions. Summarised they suggest a need to:

  • Adopt an attitude of wonder and reverence towards the world
  • Develop a philosophy of care for the world
  • Build a society-wide altruism & community towards the globalised world

The weekend will include some great speakers to address these topics and time for reflection and discussion.
